Why Visit Tambrauw?

A Sanctuary for Giants

Tambrauw is home to Jamursba Medi Beach, the world’s largest nesting habitat for Leatherback Turtles (Dermochelys coriacea). These ancient giants travel six months from California just to lay their eggs on these 18 kilometers of protected coastline.

Living History

The region serves as an open-air museum for World War II. In the War District near Sausapor, you can find eight Allied tanks still intact, though reclaimed by the jungle. These relics are carefully guarded by indigenous clans, such as the Yekese, ensuring the history remains part of the land.

The “Teletubbies” Savanna

Deep in the Kebar District lies Sontiri Hill, a giant green basin known as the Teletubbies Hill. It is a crossing place for wild deer and offers a breathtaking “red light valley” view during sunrise and sunset. Nearby, the War Aremi natural hot springs offer the perfect spot for relaxation.

The Seven-Level Waterfall

For the truly adventurous, the Anenderat Waterfall in Miyah District drops 200 meters across seven levels. Surrounded by conservation forests, this area is the home of the Cenderawasih (Bird of Paradise), whose songs fill the air every morning.

📍 How to Get There

You can reach Tambrauw via two main gateways:

  • Via Sorong: Fly into Dominique Eduard Osok Airport. From there, take a 4-hour drive via double-cabin 4WD to Sausapor, or a 2.5-hour speedboat trip.
  • Via Manokwari: Fly into Rendani Airport. From here, a 4WD vehicle can take you to the Kebar District in approximately 4 hours.
