Hollandia Harbor (Jayapura)

Once a key port during World War II, Hollandia Harbor served as a supply base for Allied forces. Old bunkers and remnants around the harbor serve as reminders of this period.


Base-G Beach (Jayapura)

Base-G Beach, named after its role as an Allied supply base during World War II, served as a strategic site for the Allied forces’ logistical operations. The beach is located close to Jayapura and was part of a network used to store supplies, fuel, and ammunition for troops during the Pacific campaign.


General Douglas MacArthur Monument, Ifar Hill, Jayapura

This monument is dedicated to General Douglas MacArthur, the Allied commander in the Pacific during World War II. It sits atop Ifar Hill, where he directed much of the Pacific campaign. The monument provides historical context and is accompanied by informative plaques.

From the top of Ifar Hill, visitors can see sweeping views of the region, including Lake Sentani and surrounding hills, highlighting the strategic significance of this location.


Mansinam Island, Ottow and Geissler Monument, Manokwari

Manokwari is another historically significant city in Papua, as it was a base for Dutch colonial administration and early missionary work. The Ottow and Geissler Monument commemorates the arrival of the first missionaries to Papua. Manokwari also played a role in World War II as a strategic military post.

Mansinam Island holds immense religious and historical significance in Papua. It was the site where the first Christian missionaries, Carl Wilhelm Ottow and Johann Gottlob Geissler, arrived in 1855. Their arrival marked the beginning of Christianity in Papua, and the island remains a pilgrimage site.

Annual Pilgrimage and Celebrations: Every February 5th, a large Christian gathering commemorates the missionaries’ arrival. The island has a church, monuments, and a museum dedicated to their legacy, and visitors can learn about the early interactions between the missionaries and the indigenous Papuan communities.


Japanese War Memorials

Scattered across Papua, these memorials pay tribute to Japanese soldiers who fought in the region during World War II. Some memorials are accompanied by caves and relics, such as in Biak and Sarmi, preserving the memory of those who served during the Pacific War.
