Overview
Yapen is far less known and visited than Biak. A 5 days journey to these Islands, flying in from Biak or from Jayapura, offers an experience of true pristine beauty. The main Island of Yapen is populated by many birds of paradise and a good number of serious birdwatchers make the trek here. Camping is at its very best in the sweet and still heartland of this tropical island paradise. Snorkeling, diving and swimming are as good, if not better, than on nearby Biak.
Moreover, The Yapen Islands offer an opportunity to allow Mother Nature to fully embrace and delight you. Yapen Waropen islands is one of the closest is island to Biak, only twenty minutes by Trigana air or Wings air- otter flight to the district capital, Serui or six ( 6 ) hours by motorized boat. The islands of Yapen Waropen has different sights of Interest. It own the richest of mammals and birds among the neighbor at the Cenderawasih Bay. By two – hour boating east, for instance, you wiil be enchanted by the most complete habitat of bird of Paradise and other Irian typical birds in Papua.
Birdwatching
In the 2,062 hectares of Inggrisau Reserve, six hours by the motorized boat from Serui, you may find an amazing habitat of varied turtles such as star turtle ( Dermochelys Coriaceae ), shell turtle ( Cretmocechelys Mybas ). Hundreds of birdwatchers worldwide visit the reserve yearly. There are several places nearby Serui where you can go viewing birds. From Serui you can start by riding a motorized boat to several minor islands then continue trekking to a waterfall to see butterfly as well.
