Sentani Lake, Jayapura | Papua
Lake Sentani is the largest lake in Papua. Lake area of 9,360 hectares is stretched between Jayapura; and Jayapura is located at an altitude of 75 mdpl. Lake Sentani area itself is under the slopes of the Cyclops Nature Reserve. From Jayapura city is about 50 km away.
“Cyclops Mountains is located in the northern coast of Jayapura, a structural mountain stretching east-west and bordering the Papua Island with the Pacific Ocean. It is considered as the last accreted terranes of Pacific Plate origin within a long history of oceanic arc obduction onto the northern Australian passive margin since Cenozoic”.
The Cyclop Mountains are a relatively small range of rather high mountains (highest peak 2158 meter) in the Northeast of Papua. It is an official National Park, but it is not clear where this park should begin or where it ends. At the foot of the mountains it imperceptibly changes in urban area.
