Day 1, Port Moresby to Normanby Island
Flight
Port Moresby – Alotau, PX154, 09:20 – 10:10 Arrive Gurney Airport meet and greet by your birding guide Waiyaki Nemani followed by vehicle
transfers 2hrs to East Cape Point (56km) than
outboard motor dinghy transfer to Normanby Island (1hr). The ocean offers quite a number of sea birds can be seen here while crossing the sea, such as Black/brown Noddy, Bridle tern, Lesser Frigate Birds and Brown Booby a few to mention here. Arrive Sibonai Eco- Guest House. The guest house is set in the rainforest to promote bird watching tourism after several visits by the


scientists caring out survey and updating bird list for the Island. Bird List is available at the guest house. After settling in, we will do birding in the nearby surroundings and of course you are rest assured to pickup you first bird of paradise the Curl -crested Manucode giving its last moaning calls before the sunset. Purple –bellied Lorry, Yellow- billed Kingfisher are some of the afternoon sightings. After having your evening meal, tonight we will head out for night spotting. Papuan Frogmouth,
Bare Owlet-nightjars, Papuan Boo
book Ninox theomacha goldii will be our target.Retire for the night.

Day 2, Birding foray into the higher grounds of Sibonai
the high canopy. This site has been used by many Scientists for research work on species of
reptiles and amphibians and recently the community working in partnership with the (NGO) None Government Organization both in Milne bay Province and overseas to conserve the area as National Park for future generation. Picnic style lunch at the river bank. The afternoon return walk will enable us to get some more species such as Golden and Hooded Monarch, Black Sunbird, Red cheeked Parrot and bunch of others.

Day 3, Duchess Island/Ulumwa
Wake up in the morning breakfast than prepare for dinghy transfer to Duchess Island. There is a big tall fruiting tree next to the lodging building which attracts bunch of doves, Pigeons and Parrots especially in the morning and this can give us chance getting claret breasted fruit dove. Duchess Island is situated on the north of the entrance to Sewa bay (30 min) from Sibonai Eco- Guest House. This Island is a home for Nicobar pigeon and Louisiade white eye and is surrounded by pristine coral reefs and offers a wonderful snorkeling spot.
For those who are interested to snorkel and explore the marine life out here, you will be given time. Rafous fantail, Common Srubfowl, Sacred Kingfisher, Crested Tern, and Island (grey) Imperial pigeon are just some of species we can spot here topping up our tick list for this trip. Return to Guest house. Little/Azure Kingfisher can be seen at the river bank near the Guest house or along the mangroves.

Day 4, Sibonai/Normanby Island to Alotau/Napatana Lodge
Today after breakfast farewell, followed by outboard motor dinghy transfers to East Cape Point. On our way across, with time and conditions permitting us, we will stop over at BoyoBoyowaga Islands. This will allow us to have a shot a bit more of Island bird life. This idyllic coral island just several hundred meters long and is close to the PNG mainland, perhaps 5km east of the East Cape tip is a roosting place for Lesser Frigate Birds and also the home of species such as the Mangrove Golden Whistler. Continue to East Cape Point followed by vehicle transfers to Alotau town. Check in Napatana lodge. For those interested to buy souvenir to take
home, you will be given a ride to the main shops, gift shops including a visit to the market. Napatana lodge has a comfortable setting upstairs with a restaurant and a
bar with a good view and gives surprises to birders with its visitors everyday so keep your handy kit next to you(binocular) so you not missing out taking a clear view. Grand Mannikin, white-Shouldered Fairy Wrens, Pink Spotted Fruit-doves, Red cheeked parrots and fawn-breasted bower bird are just some to mention.

Day 5. Alotau to Port Moresby
Flight Alotau – Port Moresby, PX155, 10:40 – 11:30
This morning after your breakfast you will be transferred by vehicle to Gurney air port. Arrive gurney airport farewell to your birding Guide (Waiyaki Nemani) and proceed on to boarding the plane returning to Port Moresby.
